Dook Ferret: Added Delaware trivia

Sala City is a strange, semi-functioning urban sprawl where the rules of reality bend slightly to accommodate nonsense. It’s a place where mushrooms rave, dream logic occasionally overrides traffic laws, and municipal services exist in name only. Beneath its everyday exterior, Sala City pulses with barely-contained absurdity, often surfacing in the form of misplaced infrastructure, oddly specific laws, and mysteriously self-replicating signage.

Overview
* Type: Urban Center
* First Appearance: Roll With the Punches
* Role: Primary Setting of the Series

General Atmosphere
* Casually Surreal: Nothing in Sala City ever seems quite right, but no one really questions it.
* Mundane but Offbeat: You can buy coffee, pay a parking ticket, and stumble into a pocket dimension all on the same block.
* Mild Bureaucratic Dystopia: Paperwork rules all, but most forms are outdated or ask questions like “Do you exist on Wednesdays?”

Governance
* Mayor: Bunnyrack O'Bunny
* Cheerful, ineffective, and generally bypassed by his aides who make the actual decisions.
* City council exists in theory but mostly sends apologies via fax.

Laws & Services
* Law Enforcement: Officer Barky heads most visible policing, though enforcement is wildly inconsistent depending on who’s asking.
* Public Transit: No one is sure if it exists. A trolley was seen once in 1998 and may still be circling the city underground.
* Emergency Services: Functioning in a “best effort” capacity. Most fires are classified as “ambient.”

Notable Locations
* Data Bark Center — A subterranean server facility operated by Boingo, Sala City’s most cheerful and technically gifted dog. It hums with both data traffic and the occasional barking echo.
* Dook and Flops' House — The slightly sentient home of the duo, notable for its clutter, electrical hum, and recurring sentient appliances such as The Fridge.
* The Kiosk — A snack stand managed by The Stoat, often serving as the city’s informal information hub.
* Vivian's Car Dealership — Home of Vivian Wease’s questionable automotive empire.

Trivia
* Despite its absurdity, Sala City has its own local newspaper, The Sala Sentinel, which regularly prints retractions before articles.
* Zoning laws allow “non-Euclidean development” in District 5.
* Maps of Sala City rearrange themselves based on who’s holding them.
* There’s a statue of someone named “Definitely Not Important” in the central square. Nobody knows who it is, including the artist.
* Due to an old pre Civil War era law, Sala City is legally neither in- nor outside the state of Delaware, making it the only place in the world were the Misc flavour of Joos is available for sale.

Dook is a green ferret from The Dreamlands, a curious and surreal realm beyond reality. Often quiet and passive, he acts as both a bystander and accidental catalyst in many of the show’s events. Dook’s unique perspective on the world — shaped by dream logic and cosmic detachment — makes him both endearing and unsettling.

He is a keeper of the silver key to one of the gates to the Dreamlands. As such, he sometimes needs to tend to matters pertaining to entities passing between the realms.

He will often use a yellow mop and bucket to deal with the aftermath of Flops' chaos. Although seemingly normal it appears to have the ability to clean up anything, although it's unclear if this is because of the mop and bucket or because of Dook.

Personality
* Naive & Kind: Dook assumes the best in everyone and everything.
* Dreamlike Detachment: He responds to violence, pain, or danger with mild confusion, as though he's dreaming.
* Curious but Slow-Reacting: He’s often interested in things at the wrong time, leading to misaligned or awkward help.
* Cannot cause harm: Much like in cartoons, nobody can get harmed around Dook. Whether through action or inaction, none of his blundering chaos can cause real harm.

Abilities
* Indestructible: Being a figment of his own imagination, Dook can’t be truly hurt. Injuries confuse him more than harm him.
* Speaks R'Lyehan: Dook speaks R'Lyehan natively and may revert to it when surprised or agitated. If he curses, he'll do so in R'Lyehan.
* Video Game Logic: He will attempt practical tasks with simplified video game methods such as hitting a machine with a wrench to repair it or simply putting raw ingredients in a pan to make a cake. It has a tendency to work.
* Lucid Perception: Occasionally, Dook speaks cryptic truths or exhibits insight into dreamlike or metaphysical aspects of reality.
* Non-Euclidian: Not inherently Euclidian, Dook may sometimes unwittingly treat objects that are far away as nearby but small, walk behind objects that are actually very far away, etc.

Appearance
* Fur: Bright green, chosen because most living things on Earth are green and he was lazy.
* Eyes: Yellow
* Nose: Pink
* Clothing: Nondescript. Sometimes wears accessories that don't quite make sense.
* Notable Trait: Always friendly, even when he shouldn’t be.

Relationships
* Flops — Dook’s best friend and housemate. Dook follows Flops’ impulsive ideas and tries to help in his own strange way. He often comforts Flops with hot cocoa when things go wrong.
* Bunnyrack O'Bunny — Shares an abstract rapport with Bunnyrack, often communicating in ways others don’t understand.
* Vivian Wease & Odie Yotie — Dook doesn’t fully understand their tension but is sensitive to the cactus in Vivian’s office, which he finds symbolically important.

Trivia
* Dook stopped “not existing” sometime before the Carboniferous period because he got bored.
* He chose to be green because he liked ferns.
* He doesn’t do “sex or violence.”
* Dook lives with Flops in Sala City and tends to fixate on mundane things like toast or ceiling tiles.
* He works as a keeper for the local Silver Gate between the Dreamlands and the mundane world. Sometimes he disappears on errands related to this.
* He likes to drink Joos to "stay green".

A pasture outside Sala City. Dook is watching anxiously as a 1950:es flying saucer is using an energy beam to suck cows up into its innards.

Flops comes running, carrying a broadsheet newspaper. He removes the staples and expertly folds the loose paper sheets into a FIM-92 Stinger missile and associated launcher. He loads the missile into the tube, shoulders the weapon, takes aim and pulls the trigger. Neither Dook nor Flops are surprised when the weapon actually fires, and they watch the missile streak toward the flying saucer, striking it and causing it to fall out of the sky and land on its side in the field.

Dook applauds, and an offscreen tennis audience claps along while a sports channel style infographic briefly pops up announcing the score is Flops: 15 - [illegible alien script]: love and that the event is sponsored by Posh♔Gits (est. 1866).

A number of cows climb out of the stricken flying saucer through the hole made by the missile and run off, indignantly mooing. Dook counts them on his fingers.

Dook: That's all of them. Farmer MacGreg will be happy.

Flops [grimly]: That'll teach those aliens that moo means moo.

Flops discards the remains of the launcher (which was incinerated by the back blast of the rocket firing) and diligently smothers the embers with his foot.

Dook: Good thing you know origami at that level. Most don't.

Flops: Perhaps that's for the best.

In the background a black, unmarked Sikhorsky Skycrane helicopter flies in and picks up the crashed saucer with a winch, and flies off. Dook looks on with concern.

Flops [patting Dook's shoulder reassuringly]: They'll be fine. Let's go.

Flops starts walking away. After a little while Dook catches up, holding a device the size of a washing machine over his head with both hands.

Dook [eagerly]: Can you fix this? I always wanted a tractor beam!

Flops: I'll take a look at it! That would be perfect on the blimp!

Cut to Dook and Flops standing in front of a white background, facing the camera, PSA style.

Flops: Remember, consent is not optional. Always discuss limits and safewords before play.

Dook: And don't forget the aftercare!

The screen goes black.

Dook [earnestly]: What was that about?

Flops [evasively]: Ehh... I have no idea either. Let's go grab a coffee before the next episode.

A studio band is playing the last bars of a jazzy tune. An audience applauds and the camera switches to a talkshow host behind a desk, with Dook and a politician looking lion in a couch next to it. Dook is examining his toes while the lion watches, looking uncomfortable. The host cheerfully waves to the camera and audience.

Host: Welcome, welcome, welcome back! And thank you to the band for playing us back in! Are your toes all still there?

Dook realizes the camera is on him and puts his shoes back on.

Dook: All accounted for!

Host: Good! We don't want any more lawsuits!

The host turns to wink at the audience. Laughter and applause.

Host: Now, before the commercial break you revealed that you are entered into the international maritime registry as a tramp steamer. How did that happen?

Dook finishes tying his shoes and sits back up.

Dook: Well... to begin with, this was before computers, so people had to make their own mistakes by hand...

Laughter and applause from the audience.
Dook: Yes?
Flops: That's normally a cause of emotional and physical trauma.
Dook: Oh. Sorry.
Dook starts to act as a normal person on fire, screaming hysterically and trying to beat out the flames.

Flops (looking around): Okay, now where's the fire extinguisher?

Dook stops screaming and flailing (and the flames stop animating). He hands Flops a fire extinguisher from nowhere.

Dook: Here.

Flops: Thanks.

Dook: You're welcome.

Dook resumes screaming and flailing until Flops douses the flames with liberal applications of CO2

Dook (completely black with soot): Thank you.

Flops (tossing the fire extinguisher out of frame): You're welcome.

Dook shakes himself like a dog and the soot falls off, revealing he is completely unaffected by the fire.

Dook: That was fun!

Flops theatrically clears his throat loudly.

Dook: That was emotionally and physically traumatizing!

Dook faces the viewers with a stern expression.

Dook: Remember, being on fire is dangerous and harmful. Always ask an adult before becoming on fire.

Flops pulls out a couple of sheets of papers and puts on reading glasses, examining the papers.

Flops: Uh... we're not doing a public service announcement episode. You don't need to talk to the viewers.

Dook looks over Flops' shoulder, reading the script to himself.

Dook (mumbling): Flops: Uh... we're not doing a bla bla talk to the viewers. Dook: Okay. What's that next bit?

Dook (out loud): Okay. What's that next bit?

Flops: It says 'Exeunt'

Dook and Flops walk theatrically out of frame. A curtain drops.

Channel 66 is a local UHF TV channel that broadcasts outdated news bulletins, public service announcements and the regional weather. For some reason the weather report features several communities that don't actually exist in the area, including one town which has apparently had a hurricane right on top of it since mid August, 1988.

The programming is on a one hour loop which runs continually, alternating between English and R'lyehan. The station manager has no idea how or why the R'lyehan version gets transmitted but has stated it's on "like, the bottom ten tier of weird things" going on in the region. The mayor agrees.

Dook and Flops' House is a modest yet charming abode situated in the suburbs of Sala City. Serving as the primary residence for the duo, the house exudes a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's a place where plans are hatched, adventures begin, and the kettle is always on.

Overview
* Type: Residential
* First Appearance: Roll With the Punches
* Location: Sala City, not too far from the Kiosk and the Bank
* Residents: Dook and Flops

Atmosphere
* Cozy and Inviting: The living room is adorned with mismatched furniture that somehow fits together perfectly, creating an environment that encourages relaxation and conversation.
* Lived-In Charm: The walls are decorated with an eclectic mix of photographs, maps, and memorabilia from past escapades, each telling a story of oddball logic and happenstance.
* Dreamlike Corners: Some rooms, especially Dook’s, occasionally defy geometry or change layout depending on the observer’s mood, a possible side effect of Dreamlands influence.

Notable Features
* Couch & TV: The central hangout spot. Most episodes open with Flops sitting here, channel surfing through surreal local programming.
* The Kitchenette: Small but well-used. Flops’ culinary disasters and Dook's cocoa brewing both occur here. It contains a tea chest, the contents of which change depending on who opens it. In the case of Dook it usually contains his standard types of tea; black, white, red, green, cloudy, swirly, bubbly and plaid. It also contains his specialty teas such as his Unsee Tea. For Flops it mostly contains normal tea, but sometimes it also contains plaid.
* Dook’s Room: A pocket of non-reality. The layout resists mapping and contains objects that may not exist in the current timeline.
* Flops’ Room: Scattered with projects in various stages of neglect. Wall posters rotate without anyone changing them.
* The Attic (Unexplored): Mentioned in passing. Rumors suggest it leads somewhere that isn't technically part of the house.

Trivia
* The house sometimes appears slightly different between episodes, a subtle nod to the unreliable perception of reality.
* Despite its small size, the house has never been shown entirely on screen—suggesting it's larger than it looks or shifts dimensions off-camera.
* Dook once referred to the house as a "temporal rest stop with indoor plumbing."

* Cannot cause harm: Much like in cartoons, nobody can get harmed around Dook. Whether through action or inaction, none of his blundering chaos can cause real harm.

Abilities

* Eyes: Yellow
Relationships
* Bunnyrack O'Bunny — Shares an abstract rapport with Bunnyrack, often communicating in ways others don’t understand.
* Vivian Wease & Odie Yotie — Dook doesn’t fully understand their tension but is sensitive to the cactus in Vivian’s office, which he finds symbolically important.
